Sell the data of a company that has stopped trading

English · Français · Deutsch · Nederlands

A company that closes leaves years of internal messages, documentation and project histories. Buyers of AI training data look for exactly this record of how work was done. For an insolvency practitioner or a former director, it is an asset that is rarely listed, and one that disappears when the subscriptions are cancelled.

What buyers ask for

These are the criteria of micro1's program for companies that have stopped operating, as shown to its referral partners on 12 October 2026. micro1 decides who is accepted.

Who can license the data

This is not legal advice. The rules differ by country and by procedure.

What must be settled first

Internal messages contain personal data of former employees, and often of customers. Privacy law (UK GDPR, GDPR, state laws in the United States) still applies after the company has failed. Whether the archive can be licensed, and after what removal of personal data, is a question for the office-holder, its advisers and the buyer. We do not settle it and we promise nothing on it. Client NDAs and professional secrecy also survive the company.

Why now

Once workspaces are closed and subscriptions lapse, a Slack or Teams archive can be deleted by the provider. After that there is nothing left to license. The time to look at it is while the estate still controls the accounts.

How it works

  1. Apply directly to micro1 with the link above: it asks about the company, its size and its data.
  2. micro1 assesses the file and, if it is interested, makes an offer. The price is set by the buyer, file by file.
  3. The contract is signed between the estate and micro1, on its terms. Registres receives, stores and processes no data.

Not sure the company qualifies, or several estates to check? Describe it to us first (choose “in liquidation”): we answer with what fits.

Frequently asked questions

Can the data of a company in liquidation be sold?

It can be licensed if the person who has the power to realise the company's assets agrees, usually the office-holder, and if privacy law and the company's contracts allow it. That is decided case by case, with legal advice.

What is a defunct company's Slack or Teams archive worth?

There is no public price list. The buyer prices each file on its volume, depth and uniqueness, and makes its offer before any contract.

Who pays Registres?

The buyer. If a company that applied through our link signs a partnership, micro1 pays us a commission. The estate pays nothing.

What about a dissolved company?

Once a company is dissolved there is usually nobody left with the power to license its records, and the data is often gone. The window is during the procedure.

Disclosure: Registres is a referral partner of micro1. If a company that applied through our link signs a partnership, micro1 pays us a commission. Your company pays nothing, and the application and contract are made directly with micro1, on its terms. See transparency (in French).
